The Chicago Teachers Union has vowed to “shut down the city”  on March 27 in response to Chicago Public Schools’ plans to close dozens of schools. The union prepared by offering free civil disobedience training for supporters.

CPS leaders warned principals to be prepared for civil disobedience in schools, sending a memo to school leaders the day before the protest. The memo includes CPS guidelines on handling disruptions. The Board of Education has also erected barricades around the district’s headquarters, where protesters are expected to gather.
