Two sustainability companies have partnered to build one of the world’s largest rooftop farms in Chicago’s Pullman neighborhood.

Method Products, sustainable cleaning goods company, has agreed to let New York-based urban farms operator Gotham Greens build a state-of-the-art greenhouse on its South Side manufacturing plant. The facility will be 75,000 square-feet, making it one of the largest rooftop farms in the world.

This means local produce will be delivered to local businesses, neighborhoods and farmers markets. So local officials and Mayor Rahm Emanuel have given it full support.

“Method has been instrumental in supporting the revitalization happening in Pullman, and the addition of this sustainable greenhouse means that more Chicago residents will have access to fresh, healthy foods grown in the neighborhood,” Mayor Emanuel said .

The farm is planned to start operating in Spring 2015.
