Jewel-Osco stores in Illinois and other Albertsons grocery brands were the victims of a credit and debit card processing data breach, the company announced Friday.

AB Acquisition LLC, which operates Jewel stores, confirmed that hackers attempted to unlawfully obtain credit and debit card information between June 22, 2014 and July 12, 2014. Albertson grocery stores across the country, from Florida to Colorado, were affected.

All Jewel-Osco stores in Chicago were affected, but there is no evidence that customer information was actually stolen, a spokesperson for Albertson stores said.

Customers’ personal information could not be directly accessed in this kind of breach, according to the chain’s website.

“From information we have at this time, we do not believe that any customer data was taken. However, out of an abundance of caution, if you used your credit or debit card in our stores between June 22, 2014 and July 17, 2014 you should monitor your credit and debit card account,” the site says.

The company hired third-party experts to investigate the issue and say the breach is now contained. Customers can safely use their cards at stores, a spokesperson confirmed.
